How To Use Instagram Reels

A sure-fire way to grow your reach on Instagram right now? You guessed it: Instagram Reels. Since introducing Reels to our Instagram last year, we’ve seen our engagement grow by 103% (over one year). Come along as we walk through why and how to use Instagram Reels.

What are Reels?

Short video clips (30-60 seconds) where users piece together bits of video and/ or photographic content. Reels are are sharable on Instagram Feed, Stories and the Reels Explore page.

They are a great way to get creative and reveal more of what goes on behind the curtain of your real estate business.

Why are they important?

What makes Reels different from static posts is their discoverability. All users can discover your Instagram Reels within the Reels Explore page.

When should you use Reels?

Reels are great for behind the scenes, tips and tricks, entertainment and relatable content.

A few quick ways to incorporate Reels:

  • Take your audience behind the scene with you

  • Show them a day in the life of a realtor

  • Share some property “before and afters”

  • Educate them about the market in your area

  • Share something relatable about “real estate life”

How to create a Reel

  • Think about your audience – what type of content will speak to them? Realtors – think behind the scenes, info-tainment, day in the life, Q&A.

  • Then, browse the Reels Explore page – taking note of trending audios, visuals, and audio clips that resonate with you that you can use as inspiration.

  • Tip: if you see an arrow in the bottom left corner of the reel that means that Reel is gaining popularity

  • Once you’ve chosen the Reel you’re going to create, make an outline for the clips and images you will need to create your video.

Reels can be recorded in a series of clips, in a single stream, or shot externally and uploaded. To add external clips from your camera roll to your Instagram Reels, select the “+” icon in the bottom left corner.

To shoot footage internally in the Reels app, hold the recording circle in the middle of the screen.

  • Add music to your Reel with the music icon or, use original audio

  • Choose the speed of your clip

  • Use timer & count down for hands-free recording

  • Use the align tool for seamless transitions

  • Choose the 3-star icon to browse effects

  • To watch, trim, or delete clips, tap the back arrow and tap on a clip to edit
