Avoid this mistake on social media

Avoid this mistake on social media

The top mistake we see agents make on social media...

Posting without an ideal client or target audience in mind. When someone comes across your profile, they don't feel like your content is speaking to them and it's not clear if they would receive value by following you. If your posts are a bunch of listing graphics and generic real estate tips - why would they want to subscribe to the information you're sharing? Here's our advice to avoid this mistake on social media...

What is an ideal client & target audience?

Examples of Ideal Clients:

  • First-time homebuyers

  • High-end buyers

  • Downsizers

  • Real estate investors

  • Relocation clients

Example of Target Audience

An ideal client might be "first-time homebuyers in their early 30s looking for single-family homes in downtown area with a budget of $500,000," while the target audience could be "people aged 25-45, looking to buy or sell homes in the greater metro area.

Why you need to know who you're talking to:

Picture this: You're scrolling through your social media feed and you see a post by a real estate agent...

The post is a generic tip like "Always inspect the house before buying."

Now ask yourself, why should you, or any other potential client, follow this agent? What sets them apart from others who are sharing similar content?

When you don't define your target audience, you lack direction in your content strategy. It becomes a case of trying to appeal to everyone and, as a result, truly resonating with no one.

Determine your ideal client

Ask these questions to help you determine your ideal client:

  • What type of properties am I most familiar with?

  • What type of transactions do I excel in?

  • What demographic do I connect with most easily?

  • What are the common pain points of my past clients?

  • What geographical areas do I specialize in?

  • What unique services or value can I offer?

  • What are my clients’ goals and motivations?

  • Who do I enjoy working with the most?

Now, create content that would speak directly to them

As you create your next social media post, story or Reel, envision this ideal client and speak to them directly. This will ensure that the next time your ideal client comes around and sees your posts, they will immediately resonate with what you're sharing.
