Are you too busy for social media?

Are you too busy for social media?

We recently took a poll and one of the biggest obstacles real estate agents are facing when it comes to social media is "I don't have enough time"

Hot take: You DO have enough time - you just aren't prioritizing it or utilizing smart systems.

Sure, between client meetings, paperwork, and open houses, carving out time for social media might seem like a pipe dream. But here's the truth: Social media isn't an option, it's a necessity for businesses today. It’s how you connect with potential clients, establish your brand, and stay relevant in an ever-evolving market.

So, how do you find the time? Re-prioritizing and building your systems. Let’s get started:

Determine Your Content Pillars

Instead of posting about random real estate topics, think about your ideal client and then choose 3-5 content pillars (topics) that they would find helpful, entertaining or relatable. Let's say your ideal clients are first time home buyers and young families.

What topics might these groups find valuable? Local knowledge, buyer Information, homeowner tips.

Assign these content pillars to a day of the week so you always know what type of post goes on each day. Monday = Local Knowledge. Wednesday = Buyer Information. Friday = Homeowner Tips

Use each content pillar to determine your individual post topics. Think about business and personal stories, recommendations, lived experiences, lessons learned, behind the scenes, educational resources that tie back to each content pillar.

Batch Content Creation

Instead of spending short bursts of time every day wondering what content to share, time block a few hours once or twice a month to create your content in batches. This includes brainstorming, filming, creating outlines, editing, and scheduling. Treat it like any other important meeting, and ensure you don't schedule anything else during that time. Creating dedicated focus time will save you hours in the long run.

Tip: Put your phone on silent in a hard to reach place and give yourself the gift of undisturbed focus.

Let's brainstorm a few ideas based on the content pillars we determined above.

Local Knowledge Post Ideas:

  • 3 kid-friendly restaurants to check out

  • Nature trails to visit this fall

  • Where to catch football games this season

Buyer Information Post Ideas:

  • 3 little-known loans available for first time buyers

  • What most young families look for in a new home

  • Neighborhoods with great playgrounds

  • Finding a home in a low inventory market

  • Homeowner by Christmas - how I'd prepare to buy this fall

Homeowner Tips:

  • 4 Fall Design Trends

  • Hosting a stress free Labor Day (or any holiday)

  • Fall Amazon Picks

  • 5 guest bedroom essentials

Use a Social Media Scheduler

Let's be honest, you are too busy to manually post content throughout the week. Luckily, there are several platforms that allow you to schedule your posts ahead of time. This means you can set everything up in your blocked content creation time, and let the software post for you automatically.

Tip: Use a scheduler like Later, Meta, or Planoly

Turn Your Daily Tasks Into Content

There's no need to separate your job from your social media content. In fact, your audience wants to see you in action! Record yourself while you're writing offers for a future reel, take your audience along to showings via Instagram stories, or share the process of staging a home. Turning what you're already doing into content not only saves time but also adds authenticity and builds trust with your audience.

Tip: Create folders in your phone of b-roll video and photos. (B-roll video means any behind the scenes clips of you or your surroundings as you go about your day). This could be a quick camera pan while you wait for coffee, a timelapse video of you working on your computer, or a video out the window as you ride through a cute neighborhood.

A tripod is your new best friend. Grab one from Amazon under $20.
