Luckily, there are a few great ways to become a valuable resource to your audience, one of which is by becoming the go-to agent for local knowledge about your community. Read on for 5 tips to become the local expert in your city.

Follow Local News Outlets and Independent Publications

Local real estate reporters keep a close eye on your city’s permit filing department and are often the first to leak new information about real estate developments in your area.

Navigate to the real estate section of your local news publications, locate the authors, then follow them on social media for the latest updates. Engage with their content and share it on your platforms to inform your audience about local real estate news.

Follow Local Real Estate Development Projects & Urban Planning Groups

Keep an eye on local real estate projects and urban planning groups for the latest on city-wide updates, real estate projects and associated programming. Throw them a shout out on your own social media and engage with these accounts to see more updates from similar types of accounts (thanks algorithms!).

Who doesn’t love to know about new local restaurants, shops and upcoming events in their area?! Follow and engage with local influencers, restaurants and event pages to get the latest scoop. Protip: visit these new restaurants and shops and attend these events, then shout them out on your social media posts. It’s a great way to build rapport with local businesses and event organizers in your community.

Set up Google Alerts for Keywords

Setting up Google Alerts is a sure-fire way to stay in the know about what’s going on in your area.

  • Navigate to google.com/alerts in your browser

  • Enter a search term for the topic you want to trackLocal Real Estate Alerts: “Real estate [City Name]”, “[City] new construction” “[City] New Development”. Tip: Incorporate the names of various real estate projects and neighborhoods in your area. This way, you can be alerted when anything is published about the projectLocal Happenings Alerts: “[City Name] Events” or “[City Name] summer” “[City Name] Entertainment”

  • Choose “Show Options” to narrow the alert to a specific source, language, and/or region

  • Select “Create Alert”
