You’re scrolling through Instagram, and you see that another real estate agent posted a hilarious reel. You know you see people using the same audio all the time, so you can just copy this person? Let’s dive into this topic: what is the etiquette on copying Reels?

You can always use someone’s Audio, but it’s best to come up with your own spin on the video content.
Click on a Reel that is using a popular audio clip. Click on the video that lists “Original Audio”. There you will see the original video where the audio is from, in addition to the other videos that used that same audio.
As an example, we’ll use this Reel we made from the trending Audio of Merilyn Streep’s voice in the Devil Wears Prada. She’s saying “And then when we get back to New York, we’ll need to contact um… Leslie, see what she can do to minimize the press on all of this.”
The original Reel:
It says, “When the Reel you didn’t put any effort into goes viral”
Our spin on it:
We took the concept of the Reel and made it real estate related. Ours is captioned, “When you accidentally send a screenshot of your texts with the listing agent back to them”
How others used it:
If you click the Original Audio, you’ll see all of the Reels that used that same audio but added a spin on the Reel topic to make it related to their industry.
If you do replicate the concept from the original Reel, it’s best to credit the creator.
It’s a bit tricky, because techincally if you use the creator’s Audio they automatically get credit because if someone clicks “Original Audio” on your Reel they will be brought back to the original reel. However, it’s best practice to actually give credit in the caption to the creator of the Reel. So if you used the Audio from @christinagalbato’s Reel AND copied her concept, you could put Credit: @christinagalbato at the end of your caption.
We recommend trying to put your own spin on it.
If you see a Reel that has a great audio you want to replicate, try to put your own spin on it. This will give you a better shot to go viral (AKA get more views, get more followers, and therefore get more leads!) Just ask yourself: What else could this apply to? For example, this Meryll Streep sound could work with the concept of you having a bad Zillow review from someone you didn’t actually work with, you having so many good Zillow reviews that you’re now a celeb, your Open House being the hottest thing on the street, 30 offers coming in on your listing and the press is going crazy… there are ALWAYS new ideas!
